RubbaGrass®

Grass Mats Europe® manufacture and supply RubbaGrass® mats all around the world. Our customers love the grass growth as well as surface protection that these mats offer. However, did you know you can also use these mats to absorb the impact of falls? The superior impact absorption make our RubbaGrass® mats the perfect play area protection. Unlike other safety matting solutions, these mats allow you to preserve the natural look of the grass.

The amount of protection you need changes depending on the height of the play area equipment and the type of surface beneath. In this post we are going to explore how RubbaGrass® mats help to protect children from fall damage, as well as explaining how critical fall height works.

What is Critical Fall Height?

Critical fall height (CFH) is the term used to describe the maximum potential height you can fall from play equipment to the ground. However, it is important to note that although safety surfacing can reduce the severity of the injury it doesn't eliminate it in all cases.

Play area equipment comes in a range of shapes and sizes and so the critical fall height is different for each piece of equipment. The equipment manufacturer or supplier will likely be able to advise you on the critical fall height required for each item.

Excellent Impact Absorption

Rubber is widely considered to be one of the best materials to absorb the impact of potential falls. This is because it is available in a wide range of hardness' to suit any application. Rubber is also able to compress under pressure. This enables it to absorb a wide range of impacts and pressure without warping or deteriorating.

Our RubbaGrass® mats a perfect for use in this application as they offer both fall protection as well as an attractive, natural looking option. The tiny holes that make up the design on the mats grant it greater compression rates than other rubber matting. This enables the mats to expand under pressure to absorb the kinetic energy of the impact.

Ground Surface Type

As you can see from the graph above you can use many different combinations of our RubbaGrass® mats in order to achieve the required results. Depending on the height of the equipment and the ground surface beneath the play area you may need multiple mats.
